How do I clean 100% polyester removable sofa covers? Can I put them in the regular washer/dryer?

Or should I use Dryel, or have them drycleaned? I just bought a nice sofa from a garage sale, but they had pets and it has a slight odor and a few small stains. Thanks for any help.
