I just moved in to an apartment and I am not allowed to paint the walls, so they are white… I just bought a cream colored sofa set and really deep brown/black coffee/end tables. What color should I go with for curtains? should I find some accent pillows to add color and then match the pillows? help! =(

Bold colors would work great with what you already have (and since you can’t change the wall color). I have a tan sofa, and I have accented with dark blue and deep red. I have one wall painted dark blue and a deep red area rug, but you could use curtains in one color, and accent pillows (or a rug) in a complimentary color. Almost any jewel-tone would work well with cream – deep red, navy, forest green, dark purple. It would probably be best to avoid neons or pastels.
You’re really fortunate you bought cream colored furniture. Any color goes with them. Darker colors are best. It depends on your personal taste. What are your favorite colors?
i think warm colors would look nice and dress up the room. reds, blue, green…i always find red is a nice accent color (warmer reds, unless you like eye popping red colors).
Wow…the cool thing is…you’ve got an entire world of color to work with! I would say that the best thing to do is find a piece of art, or a fabric that you absolutely love and use the colors from that as your pallette. With cream colored furniture and dark wood…you can do ANYTHING and it will be beautiful! Starting with throw pillows you like is a good idea. When getting curtains…I’d go with whatever the background color is in the fabric/art work…to draw that into the rest of the room.
Red is good if you want a good pop of color. And art work on the walls is good to cover the white walls.
You’ve got 2 neutral colors going. Neutral colors can go with any color. If your room isn’t very big, I suggest staying away from darker colors. That way, it’d make your room look smaller. I’d also stay away from colors that are closer to your sofa set because they’d make your coffee table stand out such that pepople will only see the coffee table as soon as they enter the room. How about play with the colors of nature and choose something in the green family? Maybe something in the tea green or darker range? It’d kind of give off the “nature” and cool look. It’d also make your room seem bigger. Or, if you are going for bold, go for a rich, valvet-like red. Black, red and cream/white will almost always make a statement.
I would recommend a natural earth tone color like light sage. Nothing drastic, just a little pop of color. I think you will be able to find throw pillows for your sofa with sage in them, since it is a popular color right now.
